David Morris believes real, progressive change starts with opportunity, connection and community.
That belief underscores everything David does as a local advocate. From serving as Chair of The 519 Community Centre – a place that provides supports to thousands of newcomers, refugees and local residents – to working with Toronto’s People with AIDS Foundation, he’s someone who builds spaces for neighbours, friends and strangers to come together and find support.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, he knows how important those spaces are. For example, in 2015 David led a coalition of 14 community organizations to deliver the largest Pride House in the Pan & Parapan American Games’ history. With the 519, David guides programming that empowers so many different communities — from youth and seniors to newcomers and those who’ve lived in Toronto for decades.
David also understands what some of Toronto’s biggest challenges are. As a long‐time public servant and private sector manager in health technology, he’s worked with the provincial government to improve access to health care, nutritious food and affordable housing. Experiences like that earned him the honour of being the Ontario Liberal candidate for Toronto Centre in the 2018 provincial election.
David grew up in Fergus, Ontario before moving to Toronto. His father is a long‐time municipal councillor in the Township of Central Wellington, so David learned from an early age the responsibilities that come with public office and what it means to stay accountable to local communities. He attended Glendon College — York University’s bilingual campus — and has a Bachelor of Education, International Honours Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree.
David currently lives in the Church‐Wellesley neighbourhood with his partner Andrew and their dog Hudson.
"The residents of Toronto Centre want to see a real plan to make life easier for those in our communities who are most often left behind. I’m honoured that they have once again chosen to put their faith in me to help shape and deliver that plan." David Morris
